Q: What is a Chiropractor?

A: A chiropractor  also known as a Doctor of Chiropractic or a Chiropractic Physician is a health care professional who practices a drug-free, hands-on approach to health care that focuses on musculoskeletal and nervous system disorders, as well their impact on general health.

Q: What training do chiropractors have?

A: Chiropractors like Dr. Ron typically attend a recognized chiropractic college after completing an undergraduate degree. Their graduate study of chiropractics emphasizes anatomy, physiology, nutrition, and other life sciences, as well as patient evaluation, diagnosis, and chiropractic treatment technique. Before being licensed to treat patients, they must pass both written and practical (hands-on) national board exams and complete a clinical externship under the supervision of an experienced chiropractor. They are required to follow chiropractic ethical standards and receive ongoing continuing medical education from state-approved providers.

Q: What do chiropractors do?

A: Chiropractors conduct physical examinations, make diagnoses, and treat a wide range of conditions. They often prescribe therapeutic and rehabilitative exercises and provide nutritional, dietary and lifestyle counseling. Chiropractic care is often used alone to treat back pain, limited range of motion, and other musculoskeletal injuries. It is also used to enhance health and provide pain management and supportive treatment for medical conditions that affect the body's structure, motion, or neurological functioning.

Q: What is a chiropractic adjustment?

A: Joint injury can be caused by a single traumatic event (e.g., lifting a heavy object, car accident) or through repetitive stresses (e.g., poor posture, doing the same movements over and over again at work). Joint injury can cause pain, muscle tightness, and reduced range of motion. A chiropractic adjustment also called a spinal manipulation is a treatment technique designed to restore joint mobility (movement) by applying a controlled force into the joint. This force may be be applied by hand or using mechanical devices.
